Complex Systems

We study systems whose free energy landscape is complex in the sense that there are multiple minima, separated by large free energy barriers. Such systems are encontered in:

  • Material Science, for instance spin glasses, for which our work is summarized here.

    - Picture show of Spin Glass Realizations

  • Biophysics, in particular for protein folding.

For our work see the paper with Meirovitch et al. from the publication list (pdf file).

  • Optimization, classical is the Traveling Salesman Problem (TSP).

Proceedings of the International Workshop MONTE CARLO AND STRUCTURE OPTIMIZATION METHODS IN BIOLOGY, CHEMISTRY AND PHYSICS (Tallahasse, March 28-30, 1999).
