The multicanonical (MUCA) Monte Carlo (MC) method calculates expectation values of the Gibbs ensemble for a desired temperature range.
In many applications this approach allows to overcome free energy barriers.
As the CPC article is somewhat outdated it is advisable to use instead the code, which comes freely with my book
Markov Chain Monte Carlo Simulations and Their Statistical AnalysisDownload the the code from the book website (try later again if website should be down).
An article which gives an introduction and a few applications of the code is also freely available.
