On Saturday February 18th, 2006 I ran a half-marathon. It was my first long race,
having only ran a 5K previously in September 2001. I ran the 5K (3.1 miles) in 27:08
(8:45 pace) where I placed 35th overall, first in my age group (I beat the other
guy). It was the end of the running season and the world had just recently changed,
so the race wasn't really packed.
Here are some facts I liked about my half-marathon:
- I ran for 2:47:19, or 10,039 seconds
- My estimate for the run was 2:43:00
- Running 13.1 miles, I averaged 4.69 mph (12:48 pace)
- That could also be written as 21.0975 km at 2.1 m/s
- The first half of the race went faster :-)
- I lost 11 pounds during the run (moslty water)
- I drank 4 liters of water during the run, netting a 7 pound loss
- I burned 4500 calories during the run
- My right big toe nail almost left me
- In the end, it only turned purple
- I'll try a full Marathon in November, hopefully in NYC
- I want to finish in under 4 hours
- If I average 6.88 mph (8:45 pace), I'll finish in 3:54:42
