Summer Apartment Rentals
in the Fermilab Area

General Information
Short term rental apartments in the Fermilab area are hard to find.
Often there is a penalty charged for rental periods of less than 3 months.
It is usually more cost effective to have 3-4 persons per apartment,
if they are willing to have two persons/bedroom.
Furnished apartments are expensive - in the $1800-$2500 range for two bedroom.
For unfurnished apartments, furniture can be rented from companies such as
Swingles Furniture Rentals (630-295-9600) (about $100/month to furnish a one bedroom apartment, $125/month to furnish a two bedroom apartment).
Swingles also rent household goods (sheets,towels,dishes...) for ~$90/month.
A Fermilab budget code can be used to pay for apartment rent.
A copy of the lease signed by both leasee and leasor must be given
to the Fermilab Accounting Dept. with a letter authorizing rental payment.
Contact Denise Keiner, Accounting General Supervisor (ext. 6386), for more information.
How to Find an Apartment
The Fermilab Housing office (630-840-3777) maintains a list of some available off-site housing. Contact Pam Fox (ext. 3777, naber@fnal.gov) and she will give you a list or send it to you by E-MAIL.
The GSA rental web page has lots of help and an extensive list of web sites to check for housing.
Particularly useful is the site www.chicagotribune.com, classified, apartments, which has a clickable map.
