April 20, 2005 Dear Congressman ----- I appreciate Congress's efforts to increase funding for the physical sciences despite difficult budgetary constraints. Due to decades of substantial reductions in federal investments in physical science and rapidly growing global competition, ensuring the nation's future leadership and prosperity depends critically on funding the Department of Energy's Office of Science and the National Science Foundation, at least at a constant level of effort. Investment in the physical sciences is crucial for the development of future technology, medicine, and economic growth. I am writing to ask you to support the Dear Colleague Letter co-sponsored by Representative Judy Biggert, Representative Alan Schiff and Representative Ellen Tauscher, in support of increased funding for the DOE Office of Science, if you have not already done so. Also please sign on to the Dear Colleague Letter in support of increased funding for the NSF co-sponsored by Representative Vernon Ehlers and Representative Rush Holt. Please do not hesitate to contact me with any questions or suggestions regarding these issues. Sincerely, Name Institution Address Phone number E-MAIL address
