PHY 3221 : Intermediate Mechanics : Objectives

The objective of this course are as follows:

to learn the subject of mechanics and some interesting and important applications, as defined in the Topics list above;

to become familiar with the formulation and solution of physical problems by application of the mathematical techniques of vectors, calculus and differential equations;

to learn concepts and methods which will be useful in the study of other, more modern, branches of physics;

and to gain experience with the mathematics package \emph{Maple} as an aid to algebraic manipulations and calculus, and for the visualization and numerical evaluation of problem solutions.
