STT group resources =================== Boston University: (Ulrich Heintz, Meenakshi Narain) - 2 engineers (names??) will become available in fall; - low level work possible without money?? - any university money (start-up funds) available? Columbia University: (Hal Evans) - Nevis engineers (Sippach?, Gara? others?) possibly interested? - could work for STT at some level without additional funds? - Hal Evans start-up funds? Stony Brook: (John Hobbs) - John Hobbs has some funds that he can spend on STT (45k over 2 years?) (startup funds?) - will have electronics engineer (Vito?) starting Jan. 1999, (for board lay-out, not for design work) - will hire postdoc to work full-time on STT FSU: (Horst Wahl, + some of (Harrison Prosper, Susan Blessing)) - Simon Foo (elect.engineering fac.member) and student have implemented clustering algorithm in FPGA Altera Flex 10k; Simon Foo intersted in continuing to work on this; (but DOE "not willing to fund non-physics faculty members"?) - could find new electronics student to work on STT -- funding source unclear - engineers from NHMFL (National High Magnetic Field Laboratory) are interested in learning about fast data acquisition and triggering, but have no experience in this; are presently learning VHDL, and trying to understand AHDL code for VRB receiver logic of Mark Bowden; - have submitted Letter of Intent and will sumbit proposal to FSU Research Foundation for funding to establish infrastructure for fast electronics development. - some students already working on various STT related studies; Dan Karmgard interested in learning VHDL; Brett Bolen learning RESQ; Brian Connolly doing x_vertex studies with Meena - will hire a postdoc to work exclusively on STT "new" institutions: Saclay: willing to provide two electronics engineers, plus physicists necessary for liaison, to help with STT design; favorite contribution would be FPGA programming; other possibility would be fiber input (they already did this for the FIC); Saclay does not want to take responsibility for STT or part of it, as visibility of this should be kept low. funds available: depends on extent of project NIKHEF: have cash "in hand" (200k$ ??) not clear what role they want to play Questions: * how much money needed when to get engineering effort started? * possibilty for other funding sources: university forward funding?
